Blueboys Drop Doubleheader to Ripon

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Ripon swept a Midwest Conference doubleheader from Illinois College on Saturday at Joe Brooks Field, winning the first game 7-5 and the nightcap 15-5.

The Blueboys fell to 15-10 overall, including a 2-7 record in conference play. The Red Hawks moved to 6-10 and 3-3. Ripon won the weekend series, 2-1.

Game 1 (Ripon 7 IC 5)
IC jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring two runs in the second on a Logan Schweigert sacrifice fly and a walk with the bases loaded by Sam Hulvey. The Blueboys added another run in the fourth when Jon Tate stole home.

Ripon took the lead at 4-3, scoring four times in the fourth before the Blueboys tied the contest an inning later when Louie Bartletti scored after a Red Hawk error. After Ripon re-took the lead at 7-4 with three runs in their half of the sixth, IC got one back in the seventh as Connor Hennemann singled in Ryne Mapes, but that was as close as IC would get.

Tate led the IC offense, collecting a pair of hits and scoring twice. Charlie Lardi took the loss on the mound for the Blueboys, tossing 5 2/3 innings with five hits, six runs (five earned), and nine strikeouts. Andrew Wieneke finished the contest for IC, allowing two hits, a run and collecting three strikeouts in his 2 1/3 innings of work.

Game 2 (Ripon 15 IC 5)
Ripon scored the first five runs of the game and took that lead into the third before IC got its offense going. In the third, IC got a single run when Braden Weaver scored on a Bartletti groundout.

The Red Hawks pushed the lead to 8-1 before IC tallied four times in the top of the fourth. Tyler Barker scored on a Ripon error, Schweigert scored on a wild pitch and then Bartletti rapped a two-run single to close out IC's scoring for the day.

Ripon plated four runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to end the game.

Bartletti had three RBI for IC while Schweigert added a pair of hits to key the Blueboys' offense. Branson Shaw took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs (three earned) with five hits and four strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of work.
