IC Baseball Drops MWC Series Finale To Cornell

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College baseball team concluded the weekend Midwest Conference series against Cornell College Sunday afternoon at Joe Brooks Field. IC scored its lone run of the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Adam Passmore. The Blueboys dropped this decision by the final score of 1-12 and move to 20-13 overall and 7-10 in MWC play. 

In his ninth start of the season, starting pitcher Branson Shaw opened the game with a scoreless inning that included two strikeouts. In the top of the second, the Rams took the early 0-1 lead on a rbi double by Seth Beals. The game quickly became a pitchers duel between IC's Shaw and Cornell's Jake Schope as both pitchers dealt scoreless frame until the fifth inning.

Passmore's solo home run in the fifth inning knotted the game at one apiece. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Rams broke up the game with 11 runs over the final three frames that generated the fina score of 1-12. 

For the game, IC was led in hits by Logan Schweigert with two as Passmore drove in the only run of the game with his solo home run. On the mound, Shaw delivered 6.2 innings of work and struck out all four batters of the game and was credited for the loss. 

The Blueboys will host Knox College for the series finale decision on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:00 PM in Jacksonville, Illinois.
