IC Esports Fall To Cleveland State In Rocket League Match

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College Esports Rocket League team had less than a 24-hour turnaround and competed against Cleveland State University Thursday night in Meraki Gaming Center. IC facing very tough competition and fell to the Vikings by the final score of 0-3 to move to 1-1 overall in the 2024 season.

Game 1: Illinois College 1, Cleveland State 2
In the opening game of the night, IC earned its lone goal from Josh Hallanger as he tied Glenn Conway with a team-high four saves. The Vikings held the ball on the IC side of the field for 64 percent of the game that helped earn the victory. 

Game 2: Illinois College 1, Cleveland State 4
In the middle stanza game, IC faced similar pressure from game one as the Vikings came out aggressive with 14 shots on goals. IC's lone goal of the game was scored by Dwight Duijneveld

Game 3: Illinois College 0, Cleveland State 1
In the final game of the match, IC and Cleveland State battled back-and-forth as both teams ended regulation tied scoreless. Three minutes into overtime, the Vikings defeated IC with a goal.  

Individual Stats:
For the match, Hallanger and Duijneveld each scored a goal. Defensively, Hallanger led IC with eight saves as Conway recorded five as Duijneveld added one.  

"It was a tough series but it's one for the team to look at and learn from. We know we have the defensive chops to fight with the best of them as showcased in game three and we will look to make that our consistent identity" said Head Coach David Seering.

The Esports Rocket League team will participate in the two-day Midwest Esports Conference event on February 10-11 starting at 10:00AM located at the Hyatt Regency in Deerfield, Illinois
