IC Rocket League Trio Win Back-to-Back Games To Defeat Ashland

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Ilinois College Esports Rocket League trio team of Glenn Conway, Dwight Duijeneveld, and Josh Hallanger faced off against the Eagles of Ashland Thursday evening in Meraki Gaming Center. The trio won games four and five to win the match by the final score of 3-2 for the final victory of the regular season. The Rocket League team recorded a 3-3 overall record.

The team was working to implement new ideas and strategies to work on our midfield coverage and so we struggled as we were adapting our play style. We decided to revert back to a few things from previously as the series went on but we did just enough to win the final game of the regular season.

The schedule for us is really rough as we're on spring break during the first round of playoffs so the match vs Cornell next week will be extremely hard. I'll have players playing on their old laptops and one player will be on vacation so he'll have terrible ping. I'm still confident that even with those hardships we can beat Cornell next week however.

In the opening game of the night, IC outshot the Eagles 7-4 which was led by Conway with three. Duijeneveld and Hallanger each recorded a save but Ashland netted the only goal of the game for the early 1-0 lead.

Game 2: Illinois College 2, Ashland 1
In the second match, IC stayed aggressive on offense and outshot the Eagles 10-5 that helped propel to a 2-1 victory. In the match, IC earned goals from Conway and Hallanger as Duijeneveld picked up an assist.

In the middle stanza match, the Eagles led the offensive attack by firing 13 shots on goal compared to IC's three. Hallanger led IC with a match-high four saves. Conway and Hallanger each netted a goal for IC in the match.

Game 4: Illinois College 2, Ashland 1
Down two games to one, IC responded in game four with a 2-1 victory that even that overall match at two games apiece. In the match, Conway netted both goals for IC while tying Duijeneveld with four saves.

Game 5: Illinois College 2, Ashland 0
The back-and-forth battled continued in the final match of the night as each team fired nine shots on goal. IC earned goals from Conway and Hallanger that sealed the game and overall victory.

"The schedule for us is really rough as we're on spring break during the first round of playoffs so the match versus Cornell next week will be extremely hard. I'm still confident that even with those hardships we can beat Cornell next week" said Head Coach David Seering.
