IC Trio Named to AFCA All-American Teams

Complete All-American Team

WACO, Tex. – The Illinois College football program continues to reach new heights in 2023 as the Blueboys had three players named to the American Football Coaches Association's annual All-American teams, the organization announced today.

Wide receiver Collin Brunstein was selected to the first team while quarterback Destin Chance and linebacker Charlie Patterson were both named to the second team. The three selections were the most-ever in one season for IC.

Brunstein is a senior from Jacksonville, Ill. who had 91 catches for 2,200 yards and 31 touchdowns. All three totals led the nation at all levels and are Midwest Conference and Illinois College single season records.

Chance, a junior from Auburn, Ill., set school and Midwest Conference records by throwing for 4,036 yards and 48 touchdowns as well as accounting for 4,251 yards of total offense and 50 total touchdowns. He finished the season 250-for-411 (.608%) with a quarterback rating of 177.96. 

Brunstein and Chance led an offense that set the Midwest Conference records for total yards (6,147 – 558.8 yards per game) and points (522 – 47.5 points per game).

Patterson is also from Auburn, Ill. and concluded his record setting senior season by recording 74 solo tackles and 24 assists. His 24 ½ tackles for loss led the Midwest Conference and set the new single-season school record. He also recorded eight sacks, 11 quarterback hurries and an interception.

IC finished the season with a 9-2 overall record which included an 8-1 slate in the Midwest Conference. The league champions earned a berth in the 2023 NCAA Division III Playoffs for just the second time in school history.
