IC's Jarrett James And Cole Bartels Named To All-SLIAC Teams

METAMORA, Ill. - The Illinois College men's golf team participated in the 2024 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and had two student-athletes receive all-conference honors. For men's golf, out of the field of 65 competitors, the top-18 received First and Second All-SLIAC honors.

IC's Jarrett James broke two records on the final day that led to a tie for second-place overall and earned a First-Team All-SLIAC selection for the second time in his Blueboy career. James opened the three-day tournament with a six-over par score of 77 that included 10 pars, four bogeys, two double-bogeys, and two birdies for splits of 39 and 38. 

On the second day, James found his groove and moved up 14 spots in the overall rankings with a two-under round score of 69. James began his second round with back-to-back pars before carding the only IC eagle of the tournament on the par-5 third hole. For the round, James constructed a team-high 15 pars, one eagle, one birdie, and one bogey which put him into a tie for sixth-place overall with splits of 33 and 36. 

On the final day, James recording-breaking round set TWO new IC individual school records; the lowest individual 18-hole round score of 66 which beat the previous record by two shots. The second record set by James was the lowest 54-hole individual tournament score of 212 which beat the previous record by 10 strokes.   

With this First-Team selection, James is a two-time All-SLIAC selection as his previous honor was in the 2022 season. 

Cole Bartels had a fantastic three-day tournament as he finished in a tie for 10th-overall with a score of 217 that included rounds of 79, 70, and 68 which earned a Second-Team All-SLIAC selection. Bartels opened the championships with a front nine score of 42 that was followed up with a one-over back nine for a score of 79. For the round, Bartels constructed 10 pars, six bogeys, one birdie, and a triple-bogey.  

On the second day, Bartels responded with a very solid round and jumped up 12 spots in the overall rankings with a one-under round of 70. Bartels reocrded a even-par score of 35 on the front nine that featured two birdies. On the back nine, Bartels stay locked in as he tallied a one-under score of 35 that included back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12.  For the round, Bartels collected 11 pars, four birdies, and three bogeys that put him a in a tie for 18th-overall. 

Bartels captured his Second-Team All-SLIAC selection with a great final round which was a three-under score of 68. Bartels started his last round on hole six and recorded four consecutive pars while putting in two birdies on the first nine holes. On the final nine holes, Bartels collected five pars, three birdies, and bogey. For the round, Bartels collected 11 pars, five birdies, and two bogeys.

With this Second-Team selection, Bartels collects his second straight All-Conference honor.

This marks the fourth straight season the Blueboys have had a student-athlete receive an All-SLIAC selection.
