Four Top-5 Finishes At McNaughton Memorial Help Capture Team Title

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College men's golf team hosted the 2024 McNaughton Memorial golf tournament on Monday at the Country Club golf course. The Blueboys entered three separate teams in the field seven teams; IC went one-two while the third IC team finished fourth in team rankings. The first team of Bleuboys that were crowned champions recorded a team score of 291 while the second team fired a team score of 313 and the third team turned in a team score of 324 for fourth place.   

The Blueboys had nine student-athletes finish in the top-11 spots in the individual rankings.

Leading the way for the Blueboys and the overall tournament was senior Peter Hauser as he turned in a spectacular round of 72 which was even-par and earned the overall individualist honor. Hauser started his round on hole three and went two-over par on the first nine holes that included a birdie on hole six. On the final nine holes, Hauser recorded a two-under par score that includes three birdies and a bogey for a tie for second overall individually. 

Right behind Hauser was another senior in Dane Huber. Huber started his round on hole three and recorded a birdie. In the first nine holes, Huber recorded a one-over par score. On the final back nine, Huber shot a even-par round.For the round, Huber tallied 11 pars and three birdies.

The junior from Chester, Illinois in Jarrett James had a great round as he tied Huber with a one-over par score of 73 and second overall. In his front nine, James recorded two birdies on holes two and seven for a two-under par score. In the back nine, James tallied three bogeys. For the round, James recorded a team-high 13 pars and two birdies. 

 Another key contributor to the team score of 291 was Cole Bartels. The senior from Katy, Texas matched Huber and James with a one-over par 73 score for a tie for second overall. In the first nine holes, Bartels fired a two-over par score that included seven pars. In the final nine holes, Bartels recorded a birdie on hole 12 and added seven pars.  

Rounding out the "A" team for IC was Caden Tinsley. Tinsley had a very solid round with a three-over par 75 which earned a seventh overall finish.

The second team of Blueboys displayed their talents and recorded a second overall team finish. The group of five student-athletes included Tobin Nell, Samuel Frericks, Ashton Sutton, Andrew McKillip, and Bryce Knackstedt. Leading the way for this group was Nell and Frericks with a five-over par scores of 77 that earned a tie for eighth overall finish. Sutton finished one-spot below Nell and Frericks with a six-over par 78 that earned a 10th overall finish. 

Rounding out the second team was McKillip and Knackstedt with rounds of 81 and 86 respectively. McKillip's score of 81 earned a 14th overall finish while Knackstedt finished in 32nd overall.  

The final group of Blueboys that put their talents on display was Isaac Anderson, Devin Brown, Dylan Clark, and Emmitt Brokaw. Leading the way for this gropup was Jacksonville native in Anderson as he fired a six-over 78 that earned a tie for 10th overall. Right behind Anderson was Brown with nine-over 81 for a tie for 14th. One shot below Brown finished Clark with a 10-over par 82 that earned a tie for 20th overall. Brokaw rounded out this group with a 11-over par 83 that earned a 25th overall finish.  

The Blueboys will return to the course be hosting the 2024 Blueboy Invite on April 11-12 at the Rail Golf Couse in Springfield, Illinois.
