Men's Tennis Split Double-Header By Dominating Westminster 9-0

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College men's tennis team concludes its six-match homestand by hosting Webster University and Westminster College (Mo) for a double-header Saturday at Bellatti Tennis Complex. The Blueboys generated a split on the day by defeating Westminster College in the final match of the day by the final score of 8-1. 

Match 1: Illinois College 1, Webster 8

The Blueboys got off to a rough 0-3 start by dropping all three doubles matches by the final score of 2-8. In singles matches, IC earned its only victory of the match from the No. 6 singles match, Momir Vickovic battled his opponent fiercely and won the opening set by the score of 7-6. In the set second, Vickovic dominated his opponent by the score of 6-1. 

In singles matches, the Blueboys struggled to find momentum and dropped five-of-the-six singles matches. In the No.1 singles match, Jeff Wernsing had his hands full and won the opening set. In the second set, WC's Ethan Foucheaux forced a tiebreaker set with a 7-6 win. In the tiebreaker set, Foucheaux gave no space for Wernsing as Wernsing dropped the set. 

In the No. 3 singles match, Grayson Dupre went point-for-point with his opponent and dropped the opening set. In the second set, G. Dupre responded with a 7-6 victory that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Dupre battled back-and-forth but dropped the set by the score of 0-1. 

Match 2: Illinois College 9, Westminster 0

The second match of the double-header was the complete opposite for the Blueboys. IC got off to a 3-0 start in singles action. In the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, Wernsing, Glenn Conway, Andurs Dupre, and G. Dupre won their matches by the final scores of 8-0. In the No. 3 doubles match, Allen Oakley and Vickovic dominated their opponents by the final of 8-1. 

In singles match, the Blueboys domianted the field and defeated all opponents in straight sets. In the No. 1 singles match, Wernsing battled back-and-forth with his opponent and won the match by the score of 8-6. In the No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches, G. Dupre and Antonio Loaiza eliminated their opponents by the scores of 8-3.  

The Blueboys will have less than 24 hours before traveling to the University of Olivet for a dual match on Saturday, March 24 starting at 10:00AM in Minooka, Illinois.
