Men's Tennis Drop Pair Of MWC Matches To Grinnell and Cornell

GRINNELL, Iowa. - The Illinois College men's tennis team opened Midwest Conference play with visits to Grinnell College and Cornell College on Saturday. The Blueboys battled both teams but dropped both matches by the final scores of 0-9. 

Match 1: Illinois College 0, Grinnell 9

The Blueboys got off to a slow start in double competition, dropping all three matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, the duo of Jeff Wernsing and Glenn Conway captured two set victories which was the most sets won by IC in all three doubles matches. 

In singles matches, Wernsing played in the No. 1 singles match where he earned five set victories but dropped the match in straight sets. In the No. 6 singles match, Momir Vickovic collected three set victories in the second set but dropped the match.  

Match 2: Illinois College 0, Cornell 9

The Blueboys had their hands full in the second MWC match of the day against Cornell. In doubles matches, the duo of Andrus Dupre and Grayson Dupre captured two sets victories but unfortunately dropped the match 2-8. 

In singles matches, IC battled the Rams but dropped all six matches. In the No. 2 singles match, Conway collected four set victories but dropped the set 4-6. In the No. 5 singles match, Allen Oakley earned three sets victories but dropped the match 3-6. 

The Blueboys will return home to Bellatti Tennis Complex on Wednesday, April 10 to face Kaskasia College at 3:00 PM in Jacksonville, Illinois.
