Men's Tennis Take Down Monmouth In Road MWC Match
MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Illinois College men's tennis team continued Midwest Conference play with a visit to Monmouth College Tuesday evening. Due to inclement weather in the Monmouth area, the match was moved inside to Huff Athletic Center. The Blueboys handled the indoor court with near perfection as IC defeated Monmouth by the final score of 8-1. With the victory, the Blueboys earn their second MWC victory of the season and have a MWC record of 2-3.
IC got off to a fantastic start in doubles competition as the Blueboys swept all three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, the duo of Jeff Wernsing and Andrus Dupre blanked their opponents to a 8-0 victory. In the No. 2 doubles match, the IC team of Grayson Dupre and Allen Oakley took the early advantage and paced to a 8-4 victory. IC swept the doubles competition by earning the third doubles victory by way of forfeit.
In singles matches, IC claimed the match by taking five-of-six single matches. Wernsing dominated the No. 1 singles match by opening the match with a battled-tested 6-4 victory. In the second set, Wernsing jumped out to a early lead and cruised to a 6-2 victory.
In the No. 2 singles match, G. Dupre opened up his match with a 6-3 first set victory. In the second set. G. Dupre shutout his opponent in Spencer Corn with a 6-0 victory. In the No. 3 singles match, A. Dupre opened his match with a hard-fought 6-4 victory and then proceed to blank his opponent in the second set by the score of 6-0 to win the match.
IC earned its seventh victory of the overall match in the No. 5 singles match by Momir Vickovic. Vickovic opened his match with a 6-2 victory and blanked his opponent in Nehemiah Declaw by the score of 6-0 in the second set to win the match.
IC picked up the final victory of the match in the No. 6 doubles match by way of forfeit from Monmouth.
The Blueboys will continue this four-match road trip with a visit Lake Forest College on Saturday, April 20 for a MWC match starting at 9:00 AM in Lake Forest, Illinois.
