Luther Spoils IC Home Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Luther spoiled the Illinois College softball team's home opener, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader, 11-0 and 13-0, on Saturday at Kamp Softball Field.

The victories moved Luther to 15-5 overall while IC dropped to 5-16.

Game 1 (Luther 11 IC 0)
The story of game was Luther's pitching duo of Olivia Engler and Cyrah Rassmussen who limited the Lady Blues to a single hit over six innings of work. Engler opened the game and tossed the first four frames, allowing only a Cheyenne Anderson double in the bottom of the second inning. Rassmussen finished up with two hitless innings.

Anderson's double was the lone hit for IC. She also had a walk and a stolen base in the game. Julia Drake suffered the loss for the Lady Blues in the circle, allowing seven runs on eight hits in her four innings.

Game 2 (Luther 13 IC 0)
The Norse broke this game open with seven runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Once again, Luther's pitching was the story of the game. Engler shut out IC on three hits with two strikeouts in five innings. Taylor Henry took the loss for the Lady Blues, allowing seven runs on five hits.

IC collected three hits in the game, singles by Calynn Gicante, Jaycie Edwards, and Elysia Hand.

The Lady Blues will open Midwest Conference play Saturday when they travel to Lawrence for doubleheader starting at Noon.
