Illinois College’s High-Powered Offense Sweeps Eureka on Senior Day

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Illinois College softball cruised to a doubleheader sweep against Eureka College, 9-1 and 13-5, on Sunday at Jessica Kamp Field.

The Lady Blues move to 15-18 while Eureka moves to 9-23.

Game 1 (IC 9 Eureka 1)

The Lady Blues used their offensive talents to quickly take the first game of the doubleheader in five innings.

Eureka opened the scoring with a first-inning run but Illinois College would quickly respond in the bottom half of the inning, with Allison Mortland scoring off of Jaycie Edwards' sacrifice fly. IC would tag on two more runs in the second inning when Kayla Serpa singled to bring in Mortland and Emma Nicholson

The Lady Blues offense would continue their firepower in the bottom of the 4th inning with six, two-out runs to extend their lead. Edwards started the barrage with a single to bring in Calynn Gicante and Mortland. Then, Elysia Hand would contribute with a two-RBI base hit to score Lizzie Snow and Cheyenne Anderson. Brooke Loveall would put the game out of reach with a base hit of her own to score Claudia Adam and Hand.

Pitcher Julia Drake improved to 8-8 and totaled six strikeouts and one earned run. Edwards collected three RBI, while Loveall, Hand, and Serpa collected two RBI each.

Game 2 (IC 13 Eureka 5)

Illinois College completed the sweep by continuing its offensive attack from the first game, beating the Red Devils in 5 innings.

The Lady Blues used their offense to break out of the gates early. Anderson doubled to start the game, scoring Mortland. Adam added to the scoring by collecting three RBI off a triple. IC would then use four different base hits to bring in five more runs in the second inning. To avoid a Red Devil comeback, Nicholson grounded out to score a run in the fourth, and Grace Braun would produce a single to bring in the final run of the game.

Hannah Crouch moved to 5-4 in the circle with the win. Adam collected three RBI, while Hand and Nicholson provided two RBI.
