Three Champions for Men’s Track & Field at Thursday Night Special
MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Illinois men's track and field team crowned three champions at the Monmouth Thursday Night Special at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
The Blueboys had first-place finishes from the trio of Elgin Scherff (3,000-meter steeplechase), Gabe Roberts (800 meters), and Drake Mudd (triple jump).
Scherff recorded a time of 11:04.42 in the steeplechase, Roberts clocked a 2:09.37 in the 800 while Mudd posted a mark of 11.59 meters in the triple jump.
On the track, IC had second-place finishes from Will Detmer in the 1,500 meters (4:13.47). The field events saw second-place finishes from Deon Rodgers in the discus (43.83 meters) and Adam Sipes in the long jump (6.13 meters).
Rodgers also finished third in the shot put with a mark of 13.86 meters.
A portion of the Blueboys will run at the Drake Relays on Friday and the entire team will return to Monmouth for the Fighting Scot Invitational on May 4th.
