Men's Capture 1st Place, Women's 3rd Place at Beloit Invitational
BELOIT, Wis. - The Illinois College men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Beloit Invitational on Saturday. The Blueboys captured a first-place finish in the 8k race while the women's team earned a third-place finish in the 6k race.
The men's team dominated the Olde English Style race as all competitors finished inside the top-22 overall in the final rankings. This victory marks the first cross country win in the past 12 years.
The Blueboys were led by Devin Boggs as finished second overall with a time of 29:27.0 which was 5:56 mile pace. Elgin Scherff had a fantastic race as he finished third-overall with a time of 29:28.2 which as 5:56 mile pace. Nick Hannig earned a 5th-overall finish with a time of 29:49.8 which was a 6:01 mile pace.
Will Detmer and Robby Biesenthal rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Blueboys. Detmer finished the invitational with a 7th-place overall finish with a time of 30:04.8 while Robby Bisenthal finished with an 8th-place finish with a time of 30:06.8.
Ryan Gerdes finished the race in 11th-overall place with a time of 31:10.4 while Caden Dettmer earned a 12th-overall finish with a time of 31:21.3. Gabe Roberts finished 13th-overall with a time of 32:00.1 while Steven Doss earned a 22nd-overall finish with a time of 34:22.1
As a team, the Blueboys ran an average time of 29:47.3 in the invitational.
The women's team also had all competitors finish inside the top-22 overall in the final rankings. Alexia Finch led the team with a 5th-overall finish with a time of 28:32.3. Kairy Mercado-Ramos followed Finch closely and earned a 6th-overall finish with a time of 28:40.4 while Maddison Dortch captured a 9th-place overall finish with a time of 29:49.9.
Claire Peters had a great race as she earned a 15th-overall finish with a time of 32:05.4. First-year Morgan Carrino earned a 22nd-overall finish with a time of 34:17.2.
As a team, the Lady Blues ran an average time of 30:41.1 in the invitational.
Both teams will travel to Greenville University on Friday, October 13 to participate in the Greenville Classic.
