IC Women's Soccer Earn A Drawl Against Knox In MWC Match

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College women's soccer team opened Midwest Conference play by hosting Knox College Wednesday night. The Lady Blues earned a 0-0 tie against the Prairie Fire to move to 4-5-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the MWC. 

In the first seven minutes of action, IC came out very aggressive on offense and had four shots. IC's Olivia Ralston had two of those shots that went just over the net. In the seventh minute, IC's Kayla Piper had fantastic opportunity to score when she was on a break-away but her shot went just off the lower post.

Midway through the first half, Ralston had another opportunity to break the tie but her shot was saved by Carina Escobar. In the 38 minute, Haley Sommer took a shot on goal as that shot went off the lower post. In the final minutes of the first half, IC had a late offensive push with three shots on goal but failed to capitalize. IC and Knox went into half time tied at 0-0.  

In the second half, IC remained aggressive on offense and put three shots on goal within the first nine minutes. In the 49th minute, Sommer had two great opportunities to get IC on the scoreboard but missed just wide on both shots. IC and Knox battled back-and-forth all match. In the 83rd minute, Erin O'Connell took a shot but it was saved by Escobar. 

For the match, IC out shot Knox 23-2 as 11 of those shots were on goal. Sommer and Ralston led IC with nine shots each as Sommer had six shots on goal. IC held the Prairie Fire to zero shots in the second half.

The Lady Blues will continue MWC play with a visit to Grinnell College on Saturday, October 7 at 11:00 AM in Grinnell, Iowa.
