Lady Blues Soccer Shutout Faith Baptist 6-0 On Senior Day
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College women's soccer team hosted Faith Baptist Bible College for a non-conference match Tuesday for Senior Day. The Lady Blues defeated the Eagles by the final score of 6-0. Senior goalkeeper Cassidy Tacker recorded her first shutout of the season. IC improves to 6-7-2 overall this season.
Prior to the match, the IC women's soccer coaching staff recognized four seniors; goalkeeper Cassidy Tacker, defender Shannon Engmann, midfielder Emma South, and forward Stephanie Flores.
In the first eight minutes of the match, IC dominated the attacking zone with seven shots led by forward Haley Sommer with four. In the ninth minute, IC's Olivia Ralston intercepted a pass from a Eagles defender and found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. In the 21nd minute, Sommer sent in a fantastic cross when Erin O'Connell kicked the ball out of mid-air in the net for the second IC goal of match.
Four minutes later, the Lady Blues were awarded a corner kick as Ralston found Jourdan Stevens on the receiving end for the goal for her second goal of the season. The Lady Blues and Eagles battled back-and-forth as the score remained 3-0 at halftime.
In the 49th minute, IC's Lauren Sinclair delivered a spectacular pass to Ralston on the left wing when Ralston ripped a shot just over the Eagles goalkeeper for the 4-0 lead. In the 65th minute, O'Connell collected the ball near the 30-yard line when she blasted a shot that found the back of the net for her second goal of the match. Shortly later, Stevens delivered a shot on goal at just outside the 30-yard line as the ball went through the Eagles goalkeeper hands that made the score 6-0.
For the match, IC outshot the Eagles 34-0 as 14 of those shots were on goal. Ralston led IC with 10 shots while O'Connell and Sommer each contributed five shots.
The Lady Blues will travel to Lake Forest College on Saturday, October 21 for a MWC matchup starting at 11:00 AM in Lake Forest, Illinois.
