Women's Tennis Open 2024 Spring Season Taking Down SWIC And Kaskasia In Double-Header

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College women's team opened the 2024 spring schedule by hosting a double-header against Southwestern Illinois College and Kaskasia College Saturday at Bellati Tennis Complex. The Lady Blues dominated the day by defeating SWIC and Kaskasia by the final scores of 7-2 respectively. 

Match 1: Illinois College 7, SWIC 2

In the opening match of the day against SWIC, the Lady Blues got off to 2-1 lead after taking the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. In the No. 1 double match, Michelle Maag and Lily Ingram got the Lady Blues off to a 1-0 start by defeating their opponents by the score of 8-5. IC earned a victory in the No. 3 doubles match by forfeit.  

In single matches, the Lady Blues captured three-of-the-four matches and earned two victories by forfeit. In the No. 2 and No. 4 single matches, L. Ingram and Chloe Plough defeated their opponents in straights sets by the scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3 and 7-5 respectively.

In the No. 3 singles match, Sabrina Ingram won the opening set 6-2 but dropped the second set 2-6 that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Ingram battled Mara Withers back-and-forth when she used a late rally to defeat Withers by the score 10-7 to win the match. 

Match 2: Illinois College 7, Kaskasia 2

In the second match of the day, the Lady Blues got off to another 2-1 start in double matches by winning No. 1 and No. 2 double matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, Maag and L.Ingram used their talents and defeated their opponents by the score of 8-4.

In the No. 2 doubles match, Madison Eastin and Plough battled their opponents fiercely that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tie breaker set, the duo battled back-and-forth and took the set by the score of 10-8.   

The Lady Blues earned five single matches victories that included two that went into tiebreakers sets. In the No. 1 singles match, Maag won the opening set by the score of 6-4 but dropped the second set 4-6 that force a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Maag dominated her opponent and earned the victory by the score of 10-5. 

Eastin played in the No. 2 singles match and opened the match with a 6-1 victory. In the second set, Eastin fell in a deficit and battled back but fell just short that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Eastin found momentum early and never looked back and won the set 10-5. 

In the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 single matches, L. Ingram, Hannah Lueke, and Plough defeated their opponents in straight sets that helped earned the double-header sweep of the day. 

The Lady Blues will return back to Bellati Tennis Complex on Wednesday, March 20 hosting Lewis & Clark Community College at 5:00 PM.
