Garibay Earns AVCA Honor
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Illinois College's Ligaya Garibay has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region 9 team, the organization announced today.
Garibay is a 5-11 junior outside hitter from Waukegan, Ill. who earned honorable mention on the regional team after posting season totals of 325 kills (3.10 per set), 263 digs (2.50 per set) and 13 service aces.
The Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year after transferring to IC from the College of Lake County, Garibay was also a first team all-conference pick. Garibay also had the distinction of being named both the league's Defensive (October 11) and Offensive (October 31) Performer of the Week this season while helping the Lady Blues to an 18-13 overall record, including a 7-1 slate in conference play.
The AVCA selects 14 All-Region team members and six honorable mention selections for each of the country's 10 regions. The 200 student-athletes who made All-Region this season represent 105 different schools.
