Cornell Denies IC Midwest Conference Tournament Title

MT. VERNON, Iowa – The 25th-ranked Cornell volleyball team outlasted Illinois College in the opening set and used that momentum to post a 3-0 (29-27, 25-17, 25-21) victory and claim the championship of the Midwest Conference Tournament on Saturday at the Small Athletic & Wellness Center.

The loss snapped a seven-match win streak for the Lady Blues who finished the 2023 season with an 18-13 overall record including a 7-1 slate in conference play. IC finished in second place in the league's regular season standings behind the nationally ranked Rams (22-7) who will now advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Senior Jen Humbolt concluded her record-setting career at IC by recording a match-high 24 digs.

Illinois College also got 14 kills from junior Ligaya Garibay, the 2023 Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year, and 10 from senior Pagie Knuffman. That duo was named first team All-MWC on Friday.

Sophomore setter Summer Brandis recorded 31 assists on the day.
