Lady Blues Advance to Championship Match with Win Over Lake Forest
MT. VERNON, Iowa – Illinois College used a balanced offense and a tough defense to post a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-12) win over Lake Forest in the semifinals of the 2023 Midwest Conference Tournament at the Small Athletic & Wellness Center.
With the victory, the Lady Blues advance to the tournament's championship match and will face the winner of the second semifinal match between Cornell and Grinnell on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament.
IC's offensive attack was paced by Ligaya Garibay who collected a match-high 11 kills. Laura Kaiser added eight kills with a sparkling .412 hitting percentage. Paige Knuffman also added eight kills for the victors. Summer Brandis handed out a match-high 29 assists for IC.
The IC defense limited the Foresters to a .146 hitting percentage. Garibay posted a match-high 14 digs while Jen Humbolt added 12, Ella Middleton 11 and Alyssa Burglund 10.
The Lady Blues, who entered the tournament as the second seed with a 7-1 conference record, improved their overall slate to 18-12.
