Swim Teams Return to Action against Division I Competition

By: The Blueboys and Lady Blues faced off with Mount St. Mary’s on Wednesday in Florida.

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Illinois College men's and women's swimming teams returned to the pool on Wednesday with a non-scored meet against Division I foe Mount St. Mary's. Though the Mountaineers won the majority of the events, the Lady Blues were able to claim victory in the 200 Medley Relay and Lindsay Bruce won the 50 Freestyle.

The meet opened with the Illinois College women nabbing a narrow victory in the 200 Medley Relay. Hannah Baker, Hannah Marks, Marcella Jacquemain and Lindsay Bruce combined for a time of 2:03.01, getting the Lady Blues past Mount St. Mary's by .17 of a second. The Blueboy team of Ben Allen, Oak Wattanasirakul, Elijah Rhoad and Mike Weisenfelder took second in the same event in 1:48.03.

Individually, the Blueboys and Lady Blues had a number of top-two finishes. Bruce won the 50 Freestyle for the women in 29.03 seconds. She also came in second in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:23.10, while Martin Ambre was second in the 200 Free in 1:54.34.

In some sprint events, Baker took second in the 50 Backstroke in 31.53 seconds. Allen was second for the men in 31.19 seconds. Marks also had a runner-up placement in the 50 Breaststroke, finishing in 33.32 seconds.

Illinois College will have another dual meet on Jan. 20, venturing to North Central College for a dual meet in Naperville, Ill. at 1 p.m.
