Hannah Marks Wins Second MWC Swimmer of the Week Honor of 2017-18

By: Illinois College’s star sophomore seems to be peaking at the right time as the MWC Championships draw nearer.

GRINNELL, Iowa – Illinois College sophomore swimmer Hannah Marks has claimed the Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week award for the second time in 2017-18. The Quincy, Ill. native helped the Lady Blues establish a new school record in the 200 Medley Relay and won two other individual events at Principia College's Panther Invite on Saturday.

Marks opened the day on Saturday in style, swimming the fastest 50 breaststroke split of anyone in the field (31.53 seconds), helping her team to a time of 1:58.03 in the 200 Medley Relay, beating out the previous school record by .08.

As the day continued, Marks continued to shine in the breaststroke events. Her time of 1:09.82 in the 100 Breaststroke was nearly five full seconds ahead of her closest competitor. In the 200 Breaststroke, she clocked in at 2:34.04, more than seven seconds ahead of second place. Each time was good for the third-fastest performance in school history in the events.

After facing Principia in an invite format, the Lady Blues and Blueboys will close the 2017-18 regular season at home in Coultas Natatorium against the Panthers on Feb. 3 starting at 1 p.m.
