Blueboys Golf Shatter Four School Records On Final Day Of SLIAC Championships

METAMORA, Ill. - The Illinois College men's golf team concluded the 2024 SLIAC Championships with the final round Tuesday at Metamora Fields Golf Course. The Blueboys shattered four school records on the final day that that helped propel to a fourth-place tie with Lake Forest in the overall team standings. IC's Jarrett James, Cole Bartels, and Dane Huber all recorded under-par scores in the final round. As a team, the Blueboys recorded 55 pars and 19 birdies. 

On the final day, IC broke two team records; the lowest 18-hole tournament score of 276 and lowest 54-hole team score of 873. The new lowest 18-hole tournament score of 276 broke the previous record by 11 strokes. The new lowest 54-hole team score of 873 broke the previous record by 51 shots. 

On the individual side, Jarrett James etched his name deeper into the IC history books by setting TWO new individual school records; lowest individual 18-hole round score of 66 that beat the previous record by two shots. The other individual record set by James was the lowest 54-hole individual tournament score of 212 which beat the previous record by 10 strokes.   

At the conclusion of the three-day championships, IC's James earned a First-Team All-SLIAC selection as he finished in a tie for second-place overall with a tournament score of 212 that featured a final round score of 66. In addition, Cole Bartels was named to the Second-Team All-SLIAC team as he finished in a tie for 10th overall with a tournament score of 217 that featured a lowest round of 68. For both student-athletes, this is the second time in their Blueboy careers they have selected to an All-SLIAC team.   

Leading the way for the Blueboys was James with the record-breaking, five-under round score of 66. James started his final round with a birdie on the par-3 fifth hole. On the first nine holes, James tallied a total of four birdies that included back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. On the final nine holes, James recorded six pars and three birdies on holes 16, two, and three. For the round, James tallied nine pars, seven birdies, and two bogeys. For the tournament, finished in a tie for second overall with a tournament score of 212 that included rounds 77, 69,and 66. 

Bartels captured his Second-Team All-SLIAC selection with a great final round which was a three-under score of 68. Bartels started his round on hole six and recorded four straight pars while adding two birdies in the first nine holes. On the final nine holes, Bartels collected five pars, three birdies, and bogey. For the round, Bartels collected 11 pars, five birdies, and two bogeys. For the tournament, Bartels finished in a tie for 10th-place overall with a tournament score of 217 that included rounds of 79, 70, and 68

The other student-athlete that finished with a under-par score was Huber with a two-under par score of 69. Huber started his final round on hole seven with a par. In the first nine holes, Huber tallied five pars and back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14. On the final nine holes, Huber recorded seven pars and two birdies. For the round, Huber constructed 12 pars, four birdies, and two bogeys. For the tournament, Huber finished in a tie for 22nd overall with a tournament score of 223 that included rounds of 79, 75, and 69. 

A key contributor to the overall team success for the tournament was senior Peter Hauser. Hauser started his final round on hole six with a birdie. On the first nine holes, Hauser collected seven pars, a birdie, and a bogey. On the final nine holes, Hauser recorded four pars, two birdies on holes 15 and three, and two bogeys. For the round, Hauser constructed 11 pars, three birdies, three bogeys, and a double-bogey. For the tournament, Hauser finished in a tie for 19th-place overall with a score of 221 that included rounds 75, 73, and 73.

Rounding out the team score for IC was senior Samuel Frericks with a eight-over par score of 79. Frericks started his final round on hole eight with a bogey. On the first nine holes, Frericks recorded a six-over score that included five pars. However, on the final nine holes, Frericks turned it around with seven pars and two bogeys. For the round, Frericks collected 12 pars, five bogeys, and a triple-bogey. For the tournament, Frericks finished in a tie for 41st-place overall with a score of 236 that featured rounds of 82, 75, and 79.

With the completion of this three-day tournament, the Blueboys have officially closed out the 2023-24 season.
