Men's Golf Tied For Fourth After Day Two Of SLIAC Championships

METAMORA, Ill. - The Illinois College men's golf team returned to Metamora Fields Golf Club today for the second round of the 2024 SLIAC Championships. The Blueboys improved 23 strokes on day two from day one with a team score of 287 which ties the school record for a tournament score. As a team, IC collected 56 pars, 12 birdies, and one eagle. 

Leading the charge for IC was Jarrett James as he moved up 14 spots in the overall rankings with a two-under round score of 69. James opened his second round with back-to-back pars before carding an eagle on the par-5 third hole. James parred the final six holes on the front nine for a two-under score of 33. On the back nine, James had a even-par score of 36 that included seven pars, a birdie on hole 15, and a bogey. For the round, James constructed a team-high 15 pars, one eagle, one biride, and one bogey which moved him into a tie for sixth-place overall.  

The second Blueboy that finished with a under-par round and jumped up 12 spots in the overall rankings was junior Cole Bartels with a one-under round score of 70. On the front nine, Bartels recorded a even-par score of 35 that included two birdies on holes two and six. On the back nine, Bartels tallied a one-under score of 35 that included back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12.  For the round, Bartels recorded 11 pars, four birdies, and three bogeys that put him a in a tie for 18th-overall. 

The Jonesboro, Illinois native in Peter Hauser had a very solid second round as he tallied a two-over score of 73. On the front nine, Hauser constructed a even-par score of 35 that included three birdies; holes one, six, and nine. On the back nine, Hauser recorded five pars, three bogeys, and a birdie on hole 18. For the round, Hauser tallied eight pars, six bogeys, and four birdies which puts him in a tie for 15th-place overall. 

A pair of Blueboys in Dane Huber and Samuel Frericks rounded out the team score of 287 as both student-athletes recorded a four-over score of 75. Huber opened his round with four straight pars while adding three bogeys for a front nine score of 38. On the back nine, Huber recorded a one-over score of 37 that featured a birdie on hole 11. For the round, Huber collected 12 pars, five bogeys, and one birdie. 

The Quincy, Illinois native in Frericks had a seven-shot improvement from day to day two as he recorded a four-over score of 75. On the front nine, Frericks tallied six bogeys for a score of 41. On the back nine, Frericks turned it around with a two-under score of 34 that included back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. For the round, Frericks recorded 10 pars, six bogeys, and two birdies. 

The Blueboys will play the final round of the 2024 SLIAC Championships on Tuesday, April 30 starting at 9:00AM in Metamora, Illinois.
