Men’s Soccer Collects Conference Postseason Honors

GRINNELL, Iowa – Illinois College, the Midwest Conference regular season champions, was well represented on the league's postseason honors list, the conference announced today.

Headlining the list of honorees are senior Albert Nimako who was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, junior Reed Rogers who was tabbed as the league's Newcomer of the Year, and head coach Evan Philpott who was named the Coach of the Year.

Along with Nimako and Rogers, the Blueboys had three additional players earn first team all-conference honors in attackers Tyler Lunning, Toby Ybarra, and goalkeeper Owen Macias.

IC defenders Jives Efemini and Brock Kennell were both chosen to the second team. 

Lunning led the team in scoring with 11 goals and collecting 23 points on the season. He was named the MWC Offensive Performer of the Week on October 17. Rogers had seven goals on the season and a team-high six assists. Nimako recorded seven goals and three assists and was named the conference's Performer of the Week on October 30. Ybarra chipped in with a pair of goals on the season.

Macias posted 40 saves and 1.32 goals against average on the season. He recorded seven wins in net including all five MWC victories.

Efemini scored three times during the season while Kennell started all 18 matches on defense.

Philpott, who became IC's all-time winningest soccer coach in September, now has 36 victories to his credit after guiding the Blueboys to the first conference regular season title in school history.

IC finished the season 12-5-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the Midwest Conference.
