Lady Blues Golf Open 2024 Spring Season Defeating Blackburn College
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College women's golf team opened the 2024 spring season by hosting Blackburn College for a dual match Thursday afternoon at The Links Golf Course. The Lady Blues battled the tough weather conditions and defeated the Beavers by the team score of 341-492.
The Lady Blues were led by Katie Mae Milhiser and Hannah Harpster with rounds of 83 each. Milhiser turned in the lowest front nine score among all players with three-over 39. Also in the front nine, Harpster recorded back-to-back birdies on holes seven and eight that helped lead to a front nine score of 41. Emily Guest had a very solid front nine score of 42 while Shelby Seiler fired a score of 43. Callie Hughes rounded out the front nine with a score of 51.
The back nine holes at The Links Golf Course has a higher degree of difficulty than the front nine as both teams saw increased scores. For the back nine, the Lady Blues were led by Harpster with a score of 42 while Milhiser and Guest each turned in scores of 44. The lone left-handed player on the team in Seiler fired a score of 46 on the back.
For the match, Milhiser and Harpster paced the field of competitors with rounds of 83 that finished for a tie for first-place overall. Guest recorded her lowest tournament round of her IC career with a score of 86. Sieler rounded out the team score with her round of 89 that lead to a overall team score 341. Hughes participate in her first career golf match and recorded a final round score of 108.
The Lady Blues will hit the road and participate in the two-day Washington University Spring Invite in on April 6-7 in St.Louis, Missouri at Crescent Farms Golf Course.
