Men's Golf Rank Fifth After Day One Of SLIAC Championships

METAMORA, Ill. - The Illinois College men's golf team opened the 2024 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championships with the first round at Metamora Field Golf Course Sunday afternoon. The SLIAC Championships has a tournament field of 13 institutions that includes 65 student-athletes from all across the world.  

After the completion of day one, the Blueboys currently ranked fifth in the overall team standings with a team score of 310. As a team, IC constructed 44 pars and six birdies. 

Leading the way for IC on day one was Peter Hauser with a four-over score of 75. In his round, Hauser recorded a five-over score of 40 on the front nine holes that included a birdie on the par-5 third hole. On the back nine, Hauser was dialed in as he recorded a one-under score of 35 that featured three birdies and two bogeys. For the round, Hauser recorded six pars, eight bogeys, and a team-high four birdies.

The next lowest scorer for IC was Jarrett James with a six-over score of 77. James opened his round with three straight pars on holes one through three and parred the final three holes on the front nine for a four-over 39. On the back nine, James recorded a two-over score of 38 that included two birdies on holes 12 and 16. For the round, James tallied 10 pars, four bogeys, two double-bogeys, and two birdies. 

A pair of Blueboys in Cole Bartels and Dane Huber both finished their opening rounds with an eight-over score of 79. Bartels opened his round with a front-nine score of 42 that included four pars. On the back nine, Bartels found his groove and fired a one-over score of 37. In those final nine holes, Bartels constructed six pars, two bogeys, and a birdie on the par-3 11th hole. For his round, Bartels collected 10 pars, six bogeys, one birdie, and a triple. 

The Hillsboro, Illinois native in Huber opened his round with three straight pars on holes one through three that helped lead to a four-over score of 39 on the front nine. On the back nine holes, Huber recorded five pars and four bogeys for a score of 44. For the round, Huber recorded 10 pars and eight bogeys. 

Rounding out the team score of 310 was senior Samuel Frericks with a 11-over score of 82. On his front nine holes, Frericks tallied four pars and five bogeys for a score of 40. On the back nine, Frericks putted in four pars while adding four bogeys and double-bogey. For the round, Frericks accumulated eight pars, nine bogeys, and one double-bogey. 

The Blueboys will return to Metamora Fields Golf Course on April 29 for the second round starting at 10:00AM in Metamora, Illinois.
